Introduction

Africa. It is bigger than you think, more varied than you might guess, and

The single word “Africa” conjures up many ideas and visions, many of
them from books, movies and the travel section of your local newspaper.
“The Dark Continent,” “The Big 5,” Lions hunting in the grass, The Great
Wildebeest Migration, Hemingway, Stanley & Livingston, Great White
Hunters, “Out of Africa,” Conservation, Indigenous Tribes, Mt.
Kilimanjaro, and Victoria Falls.
Africa is all those things. It is a vast continent. Three USAs can fit in it. It
offers many things to many people. And for some people, it evokes the
exotic, the dangerous, the mysterious. Africa is about the circle of life and
the birthplace of man.
